Pomodoro timer

A Pomodoro study timer you can use right on this page, with nothing to install. It runs 25 minutes of focus and 5-minute breaks back to back, and adds a long break after every fourth focus session.

A chime plays when time’s up. The timer stays accurate while you work in other tabs, and the tab title shows the time left.

How to use it

  1. Pick one task and press Start.
  2. Work only on that task for 25 minutes. When time’s up, a chime plays and a 5-minute break begins.
  3. After four focus sessions, take a longer 15-minute break.
  4. You can change the focus and break lengths and turn auto-start on or off in Settings.

If you get pulled into something else partway through, press Reset and start those 25 minutes over. Under the original Pomodoro rules, a single focus session is a unit that can’t be split.

If 25 minutes feels too long

It’s fine to start with 15 or 20 minutes. What matters is doing just one thing for the time you set and taking your break when it’s scheduled. We explain why the method suits studying in our guide to the Pomodoro Technique.

How is this different from the app?

This timer just keeps time. The Haruda Focus app adds Focus Lock (while you focus, only the apps you allow will open), per-subject records, daily, weekly, and monthly stats, an exam countdown, and home screen widgets. If your phone keeps breaking your flow, the app is the better fit.

Common questions

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It’s free, and you don’t need to sign in. The number of sessions you’ve finished today is saved only in this browser.

Can I switch to another tab?

Yes. The timer counts from the moment you started it, so it stays accurate while you work in other tabs, and the chime still plays at the end. Closing the tab stops the timer.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes, just open this page in your phone’s browser. But when the screen turns off, the browser may not be able to play the chime, so for long sessions on a phone, the Haruda Focus app is more reliable.

I can’t hear the chime.

Check your device’s volume and make sure silent mode is off. Browsers only play sound after you’ve tapped or clicked on the page, so the chime is enabled once you press Start.
